love reign over me

It's my birthday today. Thought I'd get a post in before it's over. A pretty unremarkable day really apart from the rain. It has rained and rained and rained. I'm watching and listening to The Who at Glastonbury. It's raining there too. Wondering about what the next year will bring. Who knows.

"Only love can bring the rain that makes you yearn to the sky. Only love can bring the rain that falls like tears from on high."

Happy birthday Andrea - another Cancerian (me too). May the year bring everything you want it too.

Those colours and the layering - beautiful. I hope the drawing funk is finally lifting.

What stunning layering! And gorgeous "me" colours.
Thankyou for this lift on a too-cold winter day.

Aaaw thanks everyone.

I have noticed that there ar quite a few artistic Cancerians out there. Is there a correlation there? Hmmm.

Unfortunately it does not feel like this funk is lifting. I just didn't want to keep moaning about it but it is SO frustrating. These drawings are old ones, from the archives (I'd do a much better job of the shading now!). I just wanted to post something. I have nothing to post from three days worth of drawing. SO annoying.

It is STILL raining.

Thank you all for the lovely comments and wishes.

Hope your birthday was a good one, rain and funk aside!

Here's how I look at the whole "funk" thing. It's a bit like the calm before the storm; the storm being a great bursting forth of fresh ideas, visions, and abilities that just need some time to "cook". So, get ready for a great storm! (Pardon the mixed metaphor... although, some people have been known to cook up a storm...)

From yet another Cancer:~)

Happy Birthday, Miss Joseph. Did you get all that rain I sent as a present?

It should be lifting soon.

Many thanks for sharing your work, thoughts and life. Tim xXx

Happy Birthday!
I'm catching up on old EDM posts and found my way to your blog. I may have commented before, but it's worth saying again - I think your drawings are my favorites. I love the content, layout and the lines. Can openers - how delightful!

Happy birthday to you...!

Cheers guys!

I'm touched by all the birthday wishes - thanks!

Tim do you recognise this drawing? In fact do you recognise all the tings in the drawing? They're all yours! Well they were all yours when we lived in Wordsworth Street. They're probably all in your parents shed or attic now.

It is STILL raining - and even by British standards this is a LOT of rain.

Liz P - I like your way of thinking. In fact that is exactly how I'm going to look at this funk from now. I'm just getting ready for all those drawings that are simmering away. Waiting for the rain to clear the air!

Thanks everyone for your support. I am very grateful.

Wow thanks everyone for the kind birhday wishes. You know I didn't tell anyone I know it was my birthday - I don't like the attention - so it's quite funny that I've recieved so many kind wishes. Thank you all.

This is an old drawing. Ten years old in fact. I just took a load of outlines from objects in the house I lived in at the time and then coloured each of them. Layering the colours. I like the concept actually. I think it works. However the pencil work is really not very good at all but hey...

Cheers guys. I'm really touched.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! So belated, i'm sorry.
Was looking for you on Flickr -- when i should have come here.
Love the colors.
May this new year bring inspiration.
Love this song by the Who.

OK, here goes one more time, Oh! Happy Birthday, Andrea!
May your funk be no more!

OH, BTW, I do like the colour in these old drawings, alot!

andrea joseph's sketchblog said...

Thank you both.

France I love this song so much. have you seen Quadraphenia? Brilliant. Definately a top three film of mine. The Who were great at Glastonbury I thought (I only saw it on TV). Some people say they are past it and shouldn't be singing 'hope I die before I get old', however, I think when you have SO many great songs you can show off as much as you like. AND Roger Daltrey looked great!

Cheers Kath!

Sorry I'm late to the party -- happy belated birthday Andrea. I hope this next year is the best yet. I too love Quadrophenia. I think my favorite is also about water:

"I'm flowing under bridges,
Then flying through the sky,
I'm travelling down cold metal
Just a tear in baby's eye."

Something about the ubiquity of H2O... Have a great and no-doubt productive new year!
