some things are design classics

Thought I'd draw them one last time before they are put in the bin. Aaaw, they are twenty years old! I would not have thrown them away but for some time they have been in the boot of my car which randomly lets in water. So they got mouldy and smelly. Goodbye old Cons.

This is the perfect way to lose an old friend! Just perfectly done!

Well, you certainly did them an honour and immortalized them! Excellent stuff! (Especially the little threads at the back!)

You're just awesome with that ballpoint pen! This is so beautifully drawn. Lovely detail and these moleskine pages of yours are terrific.

BTW the art instructor who was teaching us was on the lookout for a good brown ballpoint for his work, what kind do you use?

Andrea,

Wow. Wonderful, wonderful posts. Just discovered your blog and am enjoying it immensely. And do you really use a ballpoint pen to draw?

Well they will live forever in your drawing. Why not make them a planter? Daisies in your cons?

Cheers guys!

Mariana - this is not actually ballpoint but a Pilot pen. it's interesting but I have never found a decent brown ballpoint myself. I have found just about every other colour (oranges are usually a little dodgy) but never a brown...as yet! I'll keep on looking.

Gramercy - thanks for the visit and comment and yep I would say that ballpoint is probably my favourite medium. I just love the 'softness'(?) you can achieve with them.

Janey - that is the cutest idea. I may just keep them after all!

Thanks everyone.

Wonderful drawing once again! I'm always sad to let go of my old shoes, they do become like close friends to me..
Your use of pen is just amazing.

Ahhh, they can join my ratty old sweatshirt from a few posts ago in the gallery of treasured oldies that we so hate to part with, even when they're gross. How nice you drew them when they were fresh and young and full of life instead of old and moldy.

This is fantastic -- so full of character and humor.

Hi Andrea,

You threw them away? You did W H A T?

Ah well, at least you brought them to our attention in your inimitable way.

Keep smiling

20yr old converse, we must be about the same age? Well, I guess you could be older, maybe you were 60 when you got them and now you're 80! But I'm guessing not. When my first pair (red) literally fell apart I made holes in the soles and looped fabric through to make flip flops, and made a tiny purse or something with the fabric. Lord knows what ever happened to that. The flip flops were not brilliant but the purse, or pouch or whatever it was, was good.

Oh such a sad day... mine are nearing that too. I should have never worn my favorites mowing the grass. :-(
